PCL surgery sucked i had it 2 years ago and still sore most of the time. i thought the cool thing about that is when i moved my leg like that it didn't hurt at all

I got into a car accident. I am going in to have surgery again on the 19th to fix the fixed ligament.
Dude I had PCL replacement surgery also and my knee still hurts plus it also moves like yours does.

Ya my knee hurts too...how did u do it?
karebu
damn. then what's the point of the surgery?
i've torn my PCL.
intilli4
Nothing. I say if you can walk and it doesn't hurt then DON'T Go for it. I seriously wish I never had it.
karebu
it doesn't hurt. only at times it comes loose and it hurts just a wee bit.
but they are saying stuff about wearing the knee out and arthritis.
woah, wait. is it _worse_? and if so, in what ways? are there any advantages anyway?
can you kneel btw?
intilli4
Hurts to kneel and yes I have pain in my knee EVERY day.
Also it is very strange that their is hardly any video/documentation on PCL Surgery. I did find out that Johns Hopkins does about 30,000 + Knee surgeries a year and about 4 to 5 of them are PCL Surgeries and that 4 to 5 is single digit not thousands.

My knee's like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzlvrcmnBSc
It's just you know, there's the dull/mild ache inside. I can still walk. Sometimes I feel the knee shift out of place but after a while it moves back and all's fine. I can even jog (with bearable discomfort).
I've just read your reply that you can't kneel. Damn. So even for _walking_ I suppose it hurts like a bitch eh? Totally no advantages for having the surgery?
Mike
After the first surgery everything was kosher but after a few months of walking around and exercising my knee the ligament slipped out of place and tore a bit. I started to experience pain again and that is why I had a second surgery. The second surgery was for fixing the PCL and making the anchor sutures tighter so this kind of slipping/tearing does not happen again. Well it did and now I am in debt from the surgeries and have the same issue that I had before but I have a different issue now. That is that the doctors don't believe me when I say that I have pain in the center of my knee and in the area where they did the incision. I just recently got fitted by a Don Joy specialist for a Custom brace that is going to push my knee back in place when it slips out. Very weird apparatus I must say but hey if it can help me walk without pain then I am SO Down for that.
Karebu
I guess I'll not go for the surgery then. So glad I found you (coz I've only been hearing things from people, and they tore ACL not PCL).
Anyway do you think t would all have been good if you got the brace before the surgery?
Mike
yeah I seriously recommend that you get fitted for a don joy brace before you have ANY Type of Surgery on your PCL. Also there is a major artery behind the PCL and most doctors who do knee surgery won't touch a PCL. Man I wish you the best and I hope you don't have to go through what I have gone through. BTW how did you hurt your PCL?
I hurt mine by slamming my knee against a car dashboard in a major freak accident
Karebu
I do have a brace (not customized though). I kinda dislike it coz it feels uncomfortable wearing it and even more so not wearing. It gives me the feeling that the longer I use it, the weaker my muscles get.
Well I play judo. I actually do not recall a single instance that left me unable to walk. It must have been some sort of cumulative effect.
My guesses are:
-Getting my leg entangled with my training partner and falling backwards (visualize someone hooking your leg and you falling backwards with your leg still being held on to) -> definitely happened more than once
-Repetitive falling and landing on the sides of my knee. (I actually tore something in my wrist as well)
-Having to drop to my knees suddenly from a standing position to execute throws.
PS: just in case you haven't heard of judo, in short, it's a japanese martial art that involves players slamming each other to the floor or trying to choke/arm-lock/joint-lock each other.

woah, that's minimally invasive surgery?
Mike
The first ones where you see 3 small incisions in the top of my knee (near knee cap) that was from ortho-scopic. The long incision is from the second surgery. VERY INVASIVE. Still hurts like hell in the top area of the incision, no explanation by any doctor I have seen as to why.
